Border Social Forum activities start on October 12th, in Mexico

Ciudad Juarez, in Mexico, will hold the Border Social Forum (BSF) from October 13 to 15. The program of the event will deal with issues like violence, environmental justice, gender, human and labour rights. Workshops, seminars and conferences, among other self-organized activities, will take place at the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juarez (Av. Plutarco Elias Calles x Hermanos Escobar). BSF official opening is scheduled for October 13, 10 am.

More than 500 representatives of organizations from US, Canada, Mexico and other countries of the global South are being expected for the event, which will gather, mainly, social movements and grassroots organizations from the Mexico/US border.

Mass demonstrations

A press conference and tour to the border region are scheduled for the October 12 (noon), as well as a demonstration against the free trade agreement (meeting point: parque Borúnda, on Avenida 16 de Septiembre). On October 14, at 5 pm, a march against the "Wall of Death", that separates Mexico from US, will depart from parque aduana to the Santa Fe international bridge.
