Invitation to preparatory meeting of WSF process in South Asia on March 18th- 19th, 2009 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

From the India Working Committee, World Social Forum:

Greetings!

As you know, the meeting of the WSF process in South Asia could not happen as scheduled in mid- January 2009 because enough South Asian groups including those who have been very active in the process could not confirm participation. At the WSF in Belem there was a lot of enthusiasm for the proposed South Asia Forum in Nepal, an idea which we have been discussing since January 2008 when there was a South Asia WSF meeting in Kathmandu. We now have another opportunity to hold this meeting just after the PSAARC meeting in Kathmandu on March 17-18th.

Many South Asians who are attending the PSAARC meeting have suggested that we hold the postponed South Asia WSF preparatory meeting on March 19th, and also use the evening before, ie March 18th. Therefore the meeting will start on the evening of March 18thand end on the evening of March 19th. The meeting will follow up on the process initiated in South Asia to support the proposal for a South Asia Forum, in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Nepali comrades from all political streams, NGOs, etc, are expected to participate in this preparatory meeting. It will thus be a good opportunity to understand about the process in Nepal and also to plan for the kinds of support and mobilisation that can be organised in different countries of the region.

The agenda will consist mainly of a) Reporting on WSF 2009 and IC meeting in Belem b) proposal for South Asia SF in Kathmandu, c) update from Nepali comrades regarding the WSF process in Nepal, local logistics and proposals regarding dates, venue, etc.for the SA Forum c) the South Asian process, including possiblities for organising other Forums in the S.A.Region e) Nepali comrades will also give the participants an update and overview of the current situation in the country.

Dates of the meeting: March 18th evening to 19th, 2009 Time: 4 pm on March 18th
9.30 am to 5.30 on March 19th. Venue of the meeting : Meeting Hall, Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN)
